Liposuction

The desire to look good and hold on to youth has been the most primitive urge of any man since times immemorial. From ayurveda to cosmetic surgery, with the passage of time man’s desire for the ever elusive youth has only taken new dimensions and turns. The latest addition to the long list of beauty enhancing technique is liposuction.

Liposuction is a type of cosmetic surgery which removes unwanted or extra fat from certain parts of the body by the help of some special surgical instruments and medicines. Liposuction is generally undertaken under the careful guidance of a trained cosmetic surgeon in some hospital or well equipped medical clinic.

The cost of liposuction depends on a number of factors like the areas of the body that needs to be operated, the technique that is used, the type of anesthetic used, total number of days of hospitalization required, etc . Besides these obvious costs, there are hidden costs like the consultation fees of the surgeon, the traveling expense, etc.

The areas of the body that are generally treated by liposuction include abdomen, hips, flanks, upper arms, thighs, chin, jowls, buttocks, and neck. Some patients also resort to liposuction to reduce or enhance their breast size. Liposuction is generally performed on patients who are medically fit without any record of life threatening ailments like high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, breathing problem etc. Liposuction works well on young people as their skins tend to have more elasticity than the older people.

Liposuction was first performed in USA in the year 1982 since then the procedure has undergone some very radical change. Today there are three main types of liposuction surgery that are used. They are widely categorized as Tumescent Liposuction, Ultra Sound Liposuction and Vaser Liposuction.

Tumescent Liposuction is the oldest form of liposuction among the three and is gradually becoming redundant. The process involves injecting a saline solution into the adjoining tissues to open up the fat cells so that they ca be removed easily with the help of a small needle like instrument called cannula. This method is relatively painless and involves lesser amount of blood loss.

The next method involved is the ultrasound method which also involves injecting a saline fat loosening fluid in to the marked area .Then a special small needle like rod is inserted which produces ultra sonic waves causing the fat cells to melt . They are then either flushed out of the body or oozes out through the normal pores.

The last category is a relatively new category which is fast becoming popular among various patients and surgeons is called vaser liposuction. It is generally termed as a non invasive kind of surgery where local anesthesia is used instead of general anesthesia, and the patient remains wide awake during the process. Local anesthesia numbs the entire area and then fat is flushed out using the ultrasonic waves. The procedure is gaining popularity because it’s safe, convenient, affordable and faster than he other two methods.

Patients are allowed to resume normal life in a day’s time and the scars and incisions are so minor that they are hardly noticeable and heal with time.

The maximum amount of fat reduced during one particular sitting is 5-6lbs. maximum limit is around 10lbs. any amount of fat reduction beyond this limit is considered unsafe and dangerous and life threatening.
